Sword of Genji
The Kamakura period was the very beginning of the samurai era, when politics was initiated by the samurai. Among them, Minamoto no Yoritomo, the great warrior leader, famously moved the center of politics from Kyoto to Kamakura, the capital of Japan. At that time, the warrior style of warfare was unique to the samurai, with the warriors wearing large armor and holding swords, naginata (halberds), and bows and arrows on horseback. It was also during this period that generals would fight single combatants by name.It was a time of valor for the samurai, when the pride of the warrior and the brilliance of his skills were conspicuous.
When it came to the Kamakura period (1185-1333), the samurai of Japan were divided into two groups: the Minamoto and Taira clans. The Minamoto clan became the pinnacle of the warrior class. The head of the Minamoto clan was Minamoto no Yoritomo.
And it was Yoritomo's younger brother who brought him to the top. Yoshitsune was a man of valor and good looks, and has been very popular from that time to the present day. This sword worn by Yoshitsune is said to be the "Usu-Midori" sword.
This tachi is very massive, finely crafted, and beautifully finished. The beautiful warp of the blade, the fine and delicate ripples on the blade, and even the handle, tsuba, and back metal are decorated with very fine patterns. The color of the arrangement is a deep shade between black and brown, and the gold decoration shines prominently.Incidentally, the tachi was a type of sword worn by warriors, wrapped around the waist with a cord, and the butt side of the tachi was raised and attached so that the tachi would not strike the horse's buttocks while on horseback. This is another major characteristic of swords worn by warriors fighting on horseback.
